New Era Student Wins SC Essay-Writing Tilt

Jefferson A. Leguiab, a junior law student of New Era University (NEU) College of Law, won second prize in the National Essay Writing Competition sponsored by the Supreme Court of the Philippines, in cooperation with the Philippine Asssociation of Law Schools (PALS). The judges of the contest included Supreme Court Justices Antonio T. Carpio, Adolfo S. Azcuna, and Minita V. Chico-Nazario. Chief Justice Reynato S. Puno, Senior Justice Leonardo A. Quisumbing, and PALS President Perry Pe awarded the prizes to the winners on June 11, coinciding with the Supreme Court’s 107th Anniversary Celebration. Leguiab received cash prize which he will share with the NEU Law Council. Meanwhile, Uella Vida V. Mancenido of San Beda College of Law won the first prize while Susan Munzing of St. Louis College of Law won the third prize.

The consolation prize winners are Steve Paolo A. Mercado and JHose Janello A. Covarrubias of the University of the Philippines College of Law; Danielle Anee D. Rubinos of the Ateneo de Manila University School of law; Roderick B. Tagnia of the Philippine Law School; Mario A. Bacsarpa of Liceo de Cagayan University; and Keefe Eldrik A. Dela Cruz and Elvin B. Villanueva of Arellano Law Foundation.
