This is totally rediculous and at the same time interesting. As I was reading the lines from Den Relojo, I got to think maybe we can be a little mature when trying to comprehend an idea in a very conceptual approach. I love the way Den Relojo makes his rebuttals, but, inasmuch as I try to weigh the concepts, maybe he can be better off researching what "Iskolar ng Bayan" really means. He got confused, or what not, because in the first place he seemed to attack or opened a conversation popping up with world of worms instead of presenting or giving more details to get to concept itself.

UP community loves conversation like this and I personally got interested too. As a UPian, what we usually teach is proper and a very bibliographic approach on whatever piece of literature we would want to have a discussion on so we will be properly guided.

Strive harder and learn more. there is so much in the basket to flaunt but ostent in a responsible and mature way of discussing a piece if not being too professional.

Always,
Sir Yu.

After all, hindi naman kawalan ang UP.

what is your religion po? Sorry if I'm asking ha. Mali kasing sabihin na may backward Catholic ideas sa UST. Do you believe in GOD? UST is just spreading the GOOD WORDS of God. And for your info, mas maraming may gusto mag-aral sa UST kaysa sa UP. Kahit magpasurvey ka pa. ;)

Just compare PUP to UP. Sa tuition palang, wala ng dapat iesplika.

Jigs, GOD BLESS YOU.

I would rather spend my parents' money with an institution known for 100 years of excellence than to study to an institution who can only brag about 400 years of existence. And besides, I don't think that I could learn much from a school that is contaminated by backward Catholic ideas.

On topic: The label "iskolar ng bayan" is shallowly defined by the author. I don't want to elaborate more on this. A lot of UPians has offered explanations on this thread.

Lastly, we are not boastful. It just so happened that UP is UP. Just like what you've said.

Hello. Makikicomment lang ha. Masyado atang mahahangin yung mga taga-UP. Because may mas magaganda pa talagang schools bukod sa UP, lalo na pagnakagraduate ka, sure na talaga yung MAGANDANG trabaho.

May kilala ako. 5-6 people na pumasa ng UPCAT pero mag-aaral sila sa ibang schools this coming school year. Yung 1, pumasa ng BA Film sa UP DILIMAN. Yung isa naman, pumasa ng BS Food Technology sa UP Los Baños. (yung names nila nasa results pero it's too private para imention yung names nila.)

I doubt.

And what’s with the FRATERNITIES AND SORORITIES? Ano namang mapapala ng estudyante doon? Sakit ng katawan? Away? Pagdedelikado ng buhay? And oblation run, what the? Kailangan talaga magganun?

I agree with the author.
As in ISKOLAR talaga. Kahit tignan niyo pa yung difference ng tuition fees. Makikita niyo yun, at DUN KAYO MALILIWANAGAN.

Yes, UP is UP. Pero PUP ang TUNAY NA ISKOLAR NG BAYAN.

P.S.
WAG KAYONG MAYAYABANG. ok? GOD BLESS. ^^

I am not from NEU but this post is to stand with them and other not-known-schools mentioned above.. (i need not defend UP as Some UPians have defended their title 'iskolar ng bayan' oredi, good job :) ..I think this is just a bait. The blogger could just be using NEU so haters of the blog and defenders of and from UP can have something to dart their anger with. if the blogger is/was from NEU would he post it here? i think not, he'd save his alma mater of course. So to those who'll be defending more of UP, defend better. this guy den is gaining all while you're in madness. :) if you feel like you've (UP studs) been victims of this blog, stop the chain. spare other not-known-schools and to this case, NEU. put some substance over your claims of being 'iskolar'. I salute many of the UP grads and achievers, Im a lover of intelligence and the 'real' intelligent people.. but then it's really not about the school's name, it's about how you live up to the standards of it, and who you become after the scholarly pursuit for education. :)
To den: be reminded of the values of desiderata. people who are vexatious to the soul should be avoided, you surely do not want to be one. :)
To bitter (only the bitter ones) defenders: the true meaning of being patient is you can keep your calm even when provoked (minimally). you failed in this argument not for lack of intelligence but for lack of virtue.
bottomline: the bloggers and those who made bitter comments are of the same wavelength. no one's better than the other.
SPARE NEU :)
sorry for grammar errors, im just nobody :)

Mr Relojo,

I'm a physics major from UP and I would say that UP students are still scholars of the nation considering that we are imbued with the responsibility to serve the country. In my opinion, it's not about how much do we pay for, considering that the University offers financial aid to impoverished students i.e. not all of us pay PHP 21,000 for tuition fee. For my opinion, being a scholar of the nation is not about paying less for tuition fee but rather having a sense of responsibility to contribute for the country's economy, science and technology, etc. I personally believe that the university was able to deliver to us students that sense of responsibility i.e. to nominate us as scholars of the nation. Hence, we proudly deserve such.

Another thing that I would like to add is that every student is proud of his/her college/university. There's always a braggart at every school and from this, it follows that not all UP students are braggarts. I would say with utmost confidence that I am a scholar of the nation because I study that I may be able to contribute to the development of the country's science and technology.
