Disney and Satanism

10.12.2008 · Posted in Ramblings

I am not really a religious person and so I don’t have my own standpoint about Satanism. But I would like to share this video because it speaks more than just about Satanism itself — it could also be about dozen other things which could range from entertainment to evangelism, to absurdity, exaggeration, and reality.

To view this video from a slightly fictional/psychological perspective, I would say psychology has something to say about this. Bandura’s social learning theory says that people learn behaviors, emotional reactions, and attitudes from role models whom they wish to emulate. If this video has a touch of reality (which I am confused about), then as a society we should wield the power of television and the promise of psychological theory to address some social problems. What do I mean? Well, it simple: billions of people around the world spend large portions of their lives watching television. Billions of people are also affected by AIDS, overpopulation, illiteracy, and gender discrimination.

And in reference to Satanism, I have yet to see it in someone else’s lens.

  1. Satanism is our attempt to concretize something that has long been within us but we fail to acknowledge because we were not raised to show any semblance of the devil. It is practical to be godly, religious since everyone tries to be one. Anything good, say love, patience, charity, are good as regards the continuation of the existence of the community, specifically, and mankind in general. So it pays to be in the side of good or “God”. However, if we try to reverse matters, if being bad will make us survive better in this world, which will never be the case, then Satanism and all other similar faiths or persuasions will be the norm.

Anything is ‘good’ as long as it is the norm; Satanism, on the other hand, is just out of the question because it will only lead to something bad, and most of us perceive it to be one of the causes for man’s demise.

  2. I think that the guy is going nuts. He is obviously over stretching the Satanism on cartoons. Maybe he should find better things to do!

  3. @John Ryan Recabar : As to satanism, I can’t really have an as-a-matter-of-fact approach about it. I have vague and silly views about it and yet I am inclined to follow your trail of thought. Norms, in their collective form, are very powerful that they can sway someone’s deepest personal conviction.

@LuLi: The first time I’ve seen it, I thought that his claims were nearly ridiculous but my own skeptical self whispers to me that there could also be some form of truth into it, somehow.

  4. @Domino: Well, it certainly did raise my eyebrow.

  5. @smallstar: Thanks!

  6. That video nearly made me angry to watch. That guy is just another idiot homophobic, religious nut job who thinks everything in modern society is evil.

  7. Hi Den! This is a really interesting post!

  8. Btw, how are you Den? I have been off-line in this period… I missed your blog so much! Right now I am back, and I am very happy while reading your stuffs!

  9. I shook my head in disbelief as I watched that clip. But I remembered reading somewhere that people will satanic messages or imagery in anything. I received an email sometime back about how one could here calls to satan by playing certain songs backwards.
Anyway this video has got me intrigued.I going off to the nearest video shop to look for that “upright phallic” symbol on the cover of the little mermaid. Wish me luck!

  10. @smallstar: Thanks for asking! And thanks for coming back!

@ruben sario: I’ve seen the upright phallic symbol and it is almost convincing. I guess you’re referring to “back masking” when you say “playing certain songs backwards’. I quite dubious about that.

  11. Even IF (and I highly, highly doubt it) there truly are satanic messages added to childrens movies, then how come when I was watching them as a kid I didn’t experiment with the wonderful world of homosexuality or turn into an assassin or take my clothes off randomly? I tell you why. Because that guy is completely full of shit.

  12. Well, I’ve seen things like this video quite a bit. What these speakers do is combine personal perception (seeing a phallus in a drawing of a castle that you really have to look for to see), personal fears and rumors they either made up or believe to be real. There was no Time Magazine article he tried to quote. There was no gay John Smith who made the Lion King.

My question is, what does it tell the audience about a speaker who hunts for perverted and obscene things in children’s cartoons? Doesn’t anyone in the room ask: “Hey, why are you looking for filthy stuff in kiddie shows? Are you a pervert?” And what about the people who now look at cartoons and look for sexual depravities in the same shows their five year olds are watching?

Also, he never links obscenity with Satanism. The two are not related. One is a manifestation of our sexual desires, the other is an ideological stance on religion.

  13. @gfish: Your points have filled the gaps about my own perception of thise video. I have nevers asked myself if there was indeed a John Smith. It could be that the speaker is trying to forge his religion (or whatever organization it is) by way of sensationalizing Disney films.

@This Devil’s Workday: I’ve seen the movie too as a kid, but my own innocence has prevented me to realize my those things. And I’m pretty sure that in the same vein, kids today will hardly notice it too. Only adults who would forcefully scrutinize the so-called obsceneties and Satanism would notice about those.

  14. @gfish: Attacking the obscure and the arcane stuff is arguably a novelty on its own. And such form of novelty would be an effective way to elicit attention from the public. Just check out how many text comments this video has earned at Youtube and you will certainly know what I’m talking about. Who would have thought that those supposedly innocent and fun-oriented Disney films could serve as a Satanic tool? As adults, we are inclined to be wary what the media is feeding those young minds and that same instinct will prod us to delve more on this subject until it turns out to be just another well-fabricated hype by one religious nut.

  15. “It could be that the speaker is trying to forge his religion (or whatever organization it is) by way of sensationalizing Disney films.”

It’s a good way to get publicity. Why attack obscure and arcane stuff no one sees? When you want to get noticed attack the most visible thing out there and tear it down. So many people know it, saw it and care about it that it will get picked up by reporters since it’s mentioned in the same breath as the popular thing they really want to talk about.

  16. True evil is likely to go undetected – Not only by children – What is the point if your face tells everyone to avoid you.

Religion has nothing much going for it except fear and blind hope.

With nothing to show for it’s claims it gathers people around emotional issues. If you can scare a person with your message; let him feel the shadow, he might run into your fold for protection and get emotional relief by your promise. That is manipulation at it’s best.

I don’t think religion is familiar either with God nor the Devil. Much ado about nothing. C.f. William Shakespeare

  17. I must agree that true evil is likely to go undetected. It won’t be easy to spot one, as cunning and disguise are involved. This is the central reason why we should remain cautious and wary about claims that are made about evil things.

  18. I should have said “Religion has nothing much going for it” to me. It’s quite unfair to broadly relegate another person’s faith to nothing. I apologize!
Kindly take my posting to be my personal experience and nothing beyond that.

    Greetings
    Exuvia

  19. I think Domino has the real answer to this video. The guy speaking is a real nut job.

I did some research on the name Pocahontas, because i thought i remembered what it meant. Turns out, that in her language, the name means “little wanton”. In other words, it meant “frolicsome kid”. It had NOTHING to do with anything the narrator said. (You have to use the archaic definition of wanton because of the time period she lived in.)

I could find nothing on Eisner marrying a gay man. Does anyone else have any information on this?

Disney did publish a booklet titled “Growing Up Gay”, but it had more to do with a company trying to be politically correct and bowing to social pressure at the time than the company trying to “promote” homosexuality. Many companies are becoming “gay friendly” and it has nothing to do with promoting a gay lifestyle. That claim is just bizarre. Gays aren’t recruited anyhow, they are that way naturally.

As for hidden images in graphics or videos, this is fairly common. It is NEVER because of the parent company trying to promote anything. It is because graphic artists and illustrators are constantly trying to sneak forbidden images into their work as a prank. Whenever such things are detected, they are removed by the company involved, and the responsible person (if known) is usually fired. This is a well documented practice in the industry. To claim that such things are a result of the company “promoting” anything is just silly.
