Wallet and Comment

May 24, 2009, Sunday— It was a hellish day! I was a victim of pickpocket. I took LRT to get back home and when I reached Monumento station, I felt that someone bumped me on my way out, but I just ignored it. I didn’t know that was intentional, but a “hunch” surged on me… and so I checked my back pack and as I was fumbling, a deep sick feeling welled up in my belly while a cold sweat started to drop on my brow. The wallet was gone! I told the guard and two policemen that my wallet is missing. My instinct told me that it’s useless to complain; I won’t get back my wallet anymore… I was just complaining because I needed to vent out. It was just a desperate need for an emotional catharsis.

What did I feel when I realized my wallet was stolen? For few seconds, I felt nothing and then I felt flabbergasted and nervous. I’m cussing out of anger. I don’t know what to think, and then I started shaking. I checked my phones. I have two phones with me that time. Thank goodness because the devil spared me my phones. My wallet contains PHP 1, 500, two ATM cards, some loyalty cards, previous pay slips, a picture, and a National Library ID. When I reached home, I immediately phoned my bank and have my ATM cancelled.

Things could happen beyond your expectations…

The following day, I received this comment on my blog:

Hey! Just found your wallet! Though the culprit already wiped it clean, the cards are still ok. I’m trying to contact TP (Teleperformance), but the freaking phone system is always a shit… I’ll return this wallet to you. I’m working in Ortigas so contact me if you have time to get this back…

The guy also gave his phone number. I hurriedly phoned him and arranged for a time to meet. I never thought that I could still have my wallet. I am so thankful for Voltaire Avila and his Mom. Both of you are angels!
I now have my wallet

This is actually my third time that I’ve lost a wallet. I’m just wondering if I really look like a good target for pickpockets, or am I just plain stupid?

  1. Why do you keep your wallet in your back pack? Keep it in your jeans or trousers front pocket when you are travelling at least.

  2. I know I should not put my wallet on my back pack, but wits evaded me that time. :(

  3. that is so unfortunate… good thing you still had your wallet back although the money is gone… take care always and as amit said, keep your wallet in your front pocket…

  4. I already learned my lesson. Instead of bringing a wallet, I carry a coin purse instead.

Bad things happen to good people all the time. Anyone that has ever read any of your blogs can tell you that you are not stupid. You are one of the most inteligent people I know. Just be careful and always take care of yourself.
