Wowowee!!!

Last 2007 Senatorial Election, there were Richard Gomez, Cesar Montano, and Victor Wood. This time it’s Willie Revillame. Indeed, our politics is becoming more distasteful. I don’t have anything against these showbiz people; they have their own craft. But we need more qualified people in the government. After that rough and uncalled for remark on the live coverage of Cory Aquino’s funeral, who would have thought that another controversy was just lurking in… It was Senator Villar who broke the news that he is willing to reserve a slot in his senatorial line up for Wowowee host Willie Revillame.
Over the years, celebrities, some with even smaller sway than Revillame, have ran and won. In a nation that equates popularity with competence, winning is indeed an easy piecy. But have they served the Filipino people in their capacity as public servants? I bet you would agree that not all of them have. Thank goodness that public have realized this during the last elections and only a few celebrities won in the national and local elections. With there fluke-induced popularity, running for office is easy for these celebrities. But it’s the winning and being in office that’s hard.
Being part of the middle class, I realize that I have a lot of complaints about the government. I realize that being part of the middle class means that the government has received a nugget of my salary before I even have my payslip. That means that every time I shop at Bench and Penshoppe, or eat at Jollibee and McDo, I pay something to the government. I am one of the taxpayers whose money fuels the growth of this nation.
It feels good to know that people still care about our politics. People still blog about this as I have just learned about Revillame’s intent by going over Kosa Pogi. I am sure that I am not the only person in the Philippines who is fed up with the farce our politics has become. Now, I understand why good men and women of character and vision who have the morals and courage to lead this nation back to sanity do not run for office. Unless our collective perception of Philippine politics become polished, we will continue to have the same old bunch of political hacks who are clueless to what needs to be done for our nation.
