BSP2K: John Nash Questions
Good day BSP2K! Here are the discussion questions about the film that you’ve just seen:
Submit it next meeting.

1. In reference to the scene in which Nash has been given some form of shock therapy: If it works, is such therapy justifiable, in spite of the apparent violence of the procedure? One would assume that such a procedure could only be ethical if the patient gives informed consent. But to what extent could someone in Nash’s position give genuine informed consent? Under what conditions are we ever right in treating persons without their consent? Who decides?
2. Cite instances on the film where introspection was used by John Nash. Do you think that introspection is an effective way to treat a serious medical condition such as schizophrenia? Expound.
3. There is a tendency for affected persons to stop taking their medication as soon as they get better, even in the face of professional advice not to do so. How far should we go to persuade or compel affected persons to continue treatment? Do patients have a responsibility to themselves to seek out treatment? Whose interests need to be consulted in making this decision? Who, in the end, is responsible? Who decides?
4. Given the choices Nash had for dealing with his condition (either taking drugs with horrible side effects, or fighting with himself to ignore the voices), do you think he made the right choice? What would you choose to do in that situation? (Do you think you could learn to suppress the voices, and how?)
5. What makes mental health a concern for all, not just individual patients?

1.every persons has the right to choose and to decide for themselves even if its good or not.. in the case of john nash ,they didn’t even let him decide if he wants to be treated or not and we all know that it is the right of the person being treated to be informed and have their consent for the doctor to do it or not. so i think that in john nash story his wife and his psychiatrist should ask his consent first while undergoing him in such theraphy like shock theraphy.even they are terrified in nash condition.
2. maybe its possible that introspection is a great treatment to some medical conditons like nash’s case because introsepection isthe process of examining own self such as our thought, desires and feeling.
3. in my own understanding in this question just like what i said we have our own decisions if we want to continue our medication or not, we know that it is our responsibility to seek out treatment if it will be a great help for us or not.
4. i think sir john Nash has choose the right decision that he will just fight his illusions so if i’m in his same position i’ll do the same thing because i believe that medicines can’t cure all illnesses just like in nash’s condition i think the only thing he need to fight his illusions is by the support of his family(love ,care etc.)
5.not only mental health but also the physical, social etc are our main concern because this will tell us if were healthy or not .
Please submit this on a piece of paper, not as a comment on my post. Thanks.
