Iglesia Ni Cristo Builds Biggest Domed Arena

08.21.2011 · Posted in Religious

Iglesia Ni Cristo is putting up Philippine Arena, soon to be the world’s biggest domed arena in Bocaue, Bulacan. The site will also include construction of a new campus of New Era University which will house the University Sports Complex, University Stadium, Convention Center, buildings for College of Architecture, College of Medicine, College of Music, and EGM Medical Center.

According to Korea Herald, Hanwha Engineering and Construction Corporation (Hanwha) won the bid to construct the Philippine Arena. Contracts have already been signed which is worth $175 million and a groundbreaking ceremony was held last August 17. The project is expected to take 30 months to build and will be ready for the INC’s centennial celebrations in 2014.

With a reported seating capacity of 50,000, the Philippine Arena is to be built on 74,000 square meters of land in Bocaue, Bulacan in Ciudad de Victoria. When finished, it will be three times bigger than the Seoul Olympics Gymnastics Stadium and has 25,000 seats more than the Araneta Coliseum. Its domed roof will be nearly 36,000 square meters thus laying claim to the title of ‘World’s Largest Domed Arena’.

The Philippine Arena is expected to be the venue not just for the Iglesia Ni Cristo’s centennial celebration but also for other INC religious events. The Church administration has also announced that Philippine Arena will also be opened for local and international events.

Same excitement here. I can’t wait for 2014!

  3. Wow! This will soon be a source of pride not only for Iglesia Ni Cristo members but for the rest of the Filipinos too. Kudos to Iglesia Ni Cristo. This shows that this religion is really doing a good job handling the finances of its members unlike the Catholic priests who just shove the donations into their own pockets. I wish other religions won’t be corrupt so they could also come up with worthy projects like this one.

    uya totoo ba eto?

When I raised the issue on Rosita Trillanes, someone in this group responded to me by posting the purported “retraction” of Trillanes. I pointed out that said retraction does not serve any fathomable legal purpose whatsoever. A recantation, retraction or desistance should be executed and filed before the prosecution files a criminal information in court. In the Trillanes case, however, that cannot be legally possible, for the following reasons:

    1. Manalo was the private complainant. He should have been the one who executed and filed an affidavit of desistance or retraction.

    2. The case was already filed in court. In fact, the case reached the Court of Appeals where Trillanes was acquitted. The appellate court upheld Trillanes and categorically called Manalo “a man of low morals” (“un hombre de baja moral’).

    3. The retraction was executed by Trillanes many years after the dismissal of the case.”

The point that Trillanes remained a deaconess until her death, after the scandal that she caused, struck me. Why would a self-confessed liar be allowed to serve in the church as deaconess? In 1 Timothy 3:10, Apostle Paul provides the qualifications for the office of deacon: “And let these also be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderer, sober, faithful in all things.” You consider a self-confessed liar blameless? Manalo himself considered Trillanes a libeler, in fact he filed a criminal case against her for libel. Then, why would she be appointed as deaconess even if she does not qualify as one who is “not a slanderer.”? You consider a conspirator against the church like Trillanes as “faithful in all things”? The doubt continues to linger in the air that her retraction can be construed as a quid pro quo for her position as deaconess.
This is not to mention the undue influence and tremendous power Manalo formidably wielded during that time, both as the Sugo, Founder and Executive Minister of his church.”

Was Rosita Trillanes a hapless rape victim or was she not telling the truth? If she was, what can we possibly make out of the self-proclaimed angel, Felix Ysagun Manalo? Why did his libel case against Rosita thrown out the window? Did Felix Manalo really took advantage of his position, raped, and beat her up?

Accusations of sexual immorality plagued Felix Manalo through out His life. In a decision by the Court of Appeals, in the case of “The People vs. Rosita Trillanes” published in July 1942, (A court case initiated by Manalo) the Justices gave an extremely unfavorable estimate of Manalo’s character stating:

“…Manalo, took advantage of his position as head of the Iglesia ni Cristo, and…employed religion as a cloak to cover his…immoral practices; that he pretended to be the Messias sent by God; and that to persuade his victims, he cited the example of Solomon and his many wives”
